Condie Research Summit • 2026

50 Varieties. Which Ones Perform and How Do You Manage Them?

What we learned from lentil, wheat and durum variety trials, fungicide, PGR, topdress, seeding-rate and herbicide research.

Virtual • November 26th • 9AM – 12PM

This session will turn insights from this year’s lentil, wheat and durum research into practical takeaways to help growers and agronomists make more informed variety selection and crop management decisions.

We’ll examine how different varieties performed in terms of yield, standability, disease resistance and grain quality, along with where they fit best and how they responded to different management practices.

The discussion will explore the impact of fungicides, plant growth regulators (PGRs), in-season topdressing, seeding rates and herbicide rates, highlighting where additional management improved performance and crop quality.

We’ll also connect these results to soil moisture and weather probe data to better understand how growing conditions influenced variety performance and responses to management.

The goal is to go beyond identifying which varieties performed best and uncover how genetics, management and environmental conditions work together to deliver better results in the field.

CCA credits available.

Jaenet ter Schure
Pulse Breeder

Born in the Netherlands, Jaenet attended Wageningen University & Research. She obtained her degree in Molecular Plant Breeding. She then interned with Limagrain, working on pea genetics, uncovering multiple markers. She transitioned into the role of Molecular Breeder for pulses and, after two years, moved to Canada, where she’s now bringing her European expertise to the pulse market in Western Canada.

Justin Ritco
Condie Seeds

Justin Ritco is the Agronomy Manager at Condie Seeds, where he manages crop rotations and agronomy to maximize farm productivity. His work combines on-farm research, crop variety evaluation, and practical field experience to better understand how varieties and agronomic practices perform under local growing conditions. Throughout the season, he draws on observations from across the farm and results from its research site. In the fall, he brings that knowledge into seed sales, helping growers select varieties suited to their operations.

Justin began his agricultural career in 2018 and has worked in the seed industry since 2020. He has served on the IHARF Board of Directors and is a member of the Prairie Grain Development Committee, the Saskatchewan Advisory Council on Grain Crops, and the Saskatchewan and Alberta Pulse Regional Variety Testing committees.
